Luckily we’ve never had to deal with anything too bizarre but there have been plenty of them around the world. Here are some of the strangest and most unusual accident claims ever recorded.

The Budweiser Beer Goggles

Back in 1991, an American man decided that he wanted to try put in an accident claim against the beer company Budweiser. After watching an advert in which it claimed that bikini clad women would be attracted to a man who drank Budweiser, he was severely traumatised to find that out that it wasn’t true. He said Budweiser had caused him emotional stress and psychological trauma. Unfortunately, his claim didn’t go very far.

Liebeck V McDonalds

The 1994 claim against fast food giants McDonalds is probably the most famous compensation claim to ever take place. Ms Lieback, an American lady, was putting her seatbelt on in her car after buying a coffee from McDonalds. She rested the cup between her legs for a second but was seriously burnt when the boiling hot contents slipped from the cup and went all over her legs.  She won the case after the jury decided that McDonalds were 80% to blame – the warnings on the cup weren’t sufficient enough, the coffee was ridiculously hot and over 700 reports for the same thing had already been filed against them.

Portaloo Trauma

An American man was awarded 10 million dollars in compensation back in 2011, after a portaloo he was using exploded with him inside. The man had gone into the cabin to light a cigarette, unaware that there was a broken pipe that was leaking methane. The cigarette caused it to ignite – taking everything with it. Luckily he escaped with his life.
